The pictures below are from a recent shipment of one of my pinball machines.  Even though this was shipped through North American Van Lines who is reasonably gentle, I wanted to make sure it was well-protected since it was my fully restored Evel Knievel.  The shipment arrived at it's destination with no problems.

Backbox is folded down on top of the cabinet with cardboard underneath.

Two pieces of cardboard were used underneath the backbox.  In later pictures you will see that the legs are packed in this area so this provides extra protection.

A small piece of cardboard was laid between the backbox "shelf" and the backbox.  Since the pin would be standing upright I wanted this area cushioned.

Backbox is shrink wrapped to the cabinet.  Do this tightly so the the backbox does not move up or down.

Game is stood upright.

A large single piece of cardboard was used to cover the entire bottom portion of the game.  This particular piece was from a box used to ship a twin sized bed frame.  I had to cut it down a little but the size was near perfect and was very thick/heavy.

A "shell" is created around the bottom section.  As with the rest of the game, a box cutter was used to help form the cardboard around the game.  If it had just been wrapped around the game there would have been bulging and not sufficient protection from possible chaffing against other freight during shipment.

Closeup of shell around bottom section.  Packing tape was used to form the corners and throughout the packing to help hold the cardboard in place before shrink wrapping.

Remainder of the cardboard is fitted around the machine.  It was purely an accident that the warning messages on the cardboard ended up almost exactly in the middle, and right side up!

Another smaller piece of cardboard is used to cover the exposed part of the backbox and upper half.

Cardboard wrapping is done.

Legs and other game goodies are laid in the area between the backbox and cabinet.  Leg levelers were removed before packing in a separate box so they would not extend beyond width of game.

Game is shrink wrapped all the way around.

Game is laid down so it can be wrapped lengthwise.  Again do this as tightly as possible to keep the cardboard close to the cabinet.

Game is placed on a pallet and attached/held in place with two tightly cinched ratchet straps.  Hello Fathom cabinet!

Information signs/messages are attached to the outer packing.  I later taped these down with packing tape so they wouldn't fall off.

Cardboard pieces were used at the pressure points of the ratchet straps for extra protection against possibly damaging the cabinet underneath.

Special thanks to Allen "TreasureCove" Shope and good buds John Wart Jr. and Henri for their advice, listening, and inspiration in getting this game packed and shipped.  I was concerned about possible damage or other issues with shipping but everything went as perfect as it could have.
